The purpose of this web-based course is to provide mental health and substance use disorder professionals the knowledge necessary to assess and treat tobacco dependence in tobacco users with co-occurring psychiatric and/or addictive disorders.

This course is designed for primary care providers and behavioral health professionals interested in the most current research and effective interventions surrounding tobacco dependence treatment and behavioral health.

Educational Objectives

Following completion of this educational activity, learners should be able to:
  • Describe population-based trends of tobacco use among smokers with co-occurring mental health and/or substance use disorders.
  • Discuss the factors in mental health and addiction treatment settings that have served to maintain tobacco use in populations with mental health and/or substance use disorders.
  • Identify and implement evidence-based treatment for treating tobacco dependence.
